Web.xml problema

Galera to programando Hibernate spring e jsf
e to com probema no web.xml

Até ai tudo bem
mas quando adiciono

<filter-mapping>
        <filter-name>extensionsFilter</filter-name>
        <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    </filter-mapping>

no web.xml
quando executo a pagina.. meu tomcat nao acha mais a pagina.. como nao se existisse
dai eu tiro o filter.. e do restar na pagina
e ele abre a pagina normalmente...
alguem sabe pq isso?
tenho q fazer varias config.. mas quando coloco os filters e os init.. ele nao reconhece mais as paginas..
